Black Leopard Territory
4 nights from $3,600 | Laikipia
In the remote highlands of northern Kenya, a rare and mesmerizing phenomenon unfolds. Laikipia is home to not just one, but several wild black leopards, melanistic cats so elusive they were thought to be myth until only recently.
The most famous of them is Giza, first photographed in 2019, who has since become a global icon. Relaxed around vehicles and frequently seen within close range of camp, Giza recently raised cubs nearby, further adding to the magic of Laikipia. In total, at least four black leopards have been identified in this area, making it one of the best places on Earth to potentially witness one in the wild.
We recommend staying 4-7 nights to significantly increase your chances of seeing the black leopard.
Why Laikipia?
Laikipia Wilderness Camp has become world-renowned for black leopard sightings:
First confirmed sightings in Africa in nearly a century
Giza was born less than 1km from camp
At least 4 different melanistic leopards now roam the area
One of the only places in Africa where sightings are consistent
